Communication Networks

Objective

This course introduces communication networks. We first introduce the key concept of network layers which consist of network architectures. Then, we deeply discuss functions, protocols, and related mechanisms at each layer. After taking trainings in this course, students can systematically understand communication networks.

Local Area Networks

This course introduces local area networks which have been the parts of today’s communication world. This course also covers hot topics such as Gigabit Ethernet, Wireless LAN etc. Students can learn architectures, protocols, and performance issues in LANs.

Network Performance Evaluation

Objective

This course aims to introduce the performance evaluation of computer and telecommunication networks. In this course, we first introduce how to employ mathematical model to analyze network performances. Then, we introduce how to write a simulator to simulate networks. After taking trainings in this course, students can use the above mentioned tools to study the research issues in computer networks.

Queueing theory

Queueing analysis is an important tool to evaluate system performances. Queueing analysis can be applied into various fields such as, bank automated teller machines, transportation, and communications data networks, etc. This course concentrates on queueing modelling techniques and applications of data communication networks.
